The Red Devils Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Signing for United
Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
