Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for questions to be asked about his position following another convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the club's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from above,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and get a victory obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”
He added, “I accept my position. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard conversations we have I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Issues and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over known weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the words.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team going through a spell of this nature with performances like these.”
He finished, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always battle.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
