Line of Duty Announced for 7th Season on BBC
The beloved police drama AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh season, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-episode season written by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."
The previous series concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been circulating ever since, but official word only arrived recently.
New Challenges for AC-12
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat corruption within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
However, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still active in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers track the ups and downs of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we are thrilled to be returning for a new installment."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was not airing, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor described being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he said.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy Line of Duty is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the news and anticipating those mercurial plot developments."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful television series of the past ten years, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of series six brought the long-running storyline about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on this week that a new season is now in development.
