Air Travel Restarts at Edinburgh Airport Following Substantial ATC System Failure
Flight operations have resumed at Edinburgh Airport following a major technical issue at the control tower grounded all flights.
Every arrival and departure were halted due to an systems problem that occurred at about 08:30.
A number of travelers reported being stuck in jets at the stand as the outage continued.
Operations Restart with Residual Impact
Officials announced at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".
However, considerable delays are anticipated to affect schedules. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with many others facing hold-ups.
A spokesperson had previously estimated that dozens of flights could be affected.
"Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for the latest information on their booked journeys," was the consistent advice.
Root of the Disruption
The problem was traced to the operational halt to an systems failure with its control tower systems vendor.
Passengers continue to be advised to verify the schedule of their trip before departing to the terminal as knock-on effects are worked through.
