Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network launched a fresh animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a serene talk show. In an era often marked by bleakness, this show's sincerity struck a chord and turned it into a breakout hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four central characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and spread the word," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Executive Acclaim
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about following this charming family go about their everyday routines.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to help comedy break out of its current layer of irony. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa has the opportunity to be part of that comedic shift. Or at the very least, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to experience the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
