A Mountain of Anime Updates Landed During the Festive Season

The winter break offer a plethora of pursuits considerably more enjoyable than checking the headlines: unwrapping gifts, indulging in delicious food, and using patience techniques to refrain from arguing with relatives. It is wished you managed to enjoy all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many noteworthy news items came out during the holidays, and just in case you missed any, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (By 2027)

Perhaps the biggest revelation, the notorious controversial season that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to stop the series' continuation. Season 3 will return with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have dubbed it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the start, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. Yet, the promotional image for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This suggests that, by now, they must be teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a reputation for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had never worked on an anime adapted from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, possibly the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a more relaxed pace, the series demonstrated it hadn't lost the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now everyone is thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel In Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been running for years, and its sixth season was another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will probably debut in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

A further studio known for the artistic merit of its work, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.
